About Ortholog.Info

Ortholog.Info is a resource for gene orthologs and orthology. Understanding the history of every gene, and which genes are equivalent between different genomes is an important part of biology. Yet most biologists are confused about orthology, and even with dozens of methods and databases, it is still difficult (or impossible) to accurately and easily follow the relationships between genes. This small site is an attempt to gather information and links on orthology to help clarify and simplify these problems.

Ortholog.Info is a project of the Manning Lab at the Salk Institute, and grows out of our work focused on the evolution of protein kinases. We learned a lot from manually exploring the origins of kinases, and are now working hard to apply the same principles to the entire genome, at our companion site for ortholog prediction.
